Winter window at Fannie and Fox..

All of those recycled plastic leaves...
Became traditional Cornish bunch sometimes called a Cornish bush..
They were traditionally made from holly and ivy, collected from the hedgerows....
But... In our Fannie and Fox way...
One of our amazing artists Rebecca Sims updated the idea by reusing milk cartons
and lemonade bottles.
The window from the outside looking in.. Is magical.

And inside the gallery everything looked very festive.
Just wanted to share this stunning white fox made by Rebecca Sims...

My day with Fannie and Fox..

As I left Falmouth on the train the fog horns were sounding, just as they are this morning..
I like the noise, such a simple sound to keep one safe..
So, here I was at the gallery thinking it would be very quiet due to the inclement weather.
Organised for once, I took paints, brushes and a couple of small canvases that I'd started the previous day and started work. (notice my improvised water container..)  I think people must have been curious because I had several people come in to see what on earth I was up to..
Needless to say I didn't get a lot done but I did have some very interesting conversations.

.. One conversation was about sound and a recent radio 2 program with Claire Balding, apparently it's about music and healing on a Saturday mornings.

This got me thinking.. Not really a good idea one might say, but, my question is..

Could I transfer sound into my work?

Which leads me back to the lighthouse in Falmouth sounding the fog horns as I sit and type this blog..

Have a good day everyone.. ~ Julie.

Ta da! The Autumn Exhibition at Fannie and Fox

My... Oh,  my.. It was raining bats and frogs...
Not that a little wind and rain can deter the fine folk of Cornwall.
So many lovely people came to see us, it was a joy and we all had a ball..
The window looked fantastic, despite worrying myself silly about it. So here is just a sample of the amazing work that was on show.

The private view comes to an end and it's time to reflect..

Focus on the artists......

This is the first of my 'focus' on the artists posts, as the weeks go by I will introduce you to all of the other members... We start with Pam, she is the owner of the gallery and a member of the co-op.

She says...I approach my work in an instinctual way and my work evolves organically. I began this creative journey having retired after years of working as a midwife. It is probably no surprise that my work is often rounded and tactile.
I am by nature optimistic, spontaneous and incredibly impatient.  I get engrossed in what I do and work impulsively. Having an interest in rites of passage, I feel my work connects with the past, the present, and the future.  I would describe my work as primitive, raw and naive, delivered with a dash of humour.
Following my two years at Camborne College, I wanted to further explore my experience of working with fused glass. In addition, I also love working with ceramics, and plan to try and integrate the two mediums, and methods, in the future.
I also produce Felt work. I include some images of Felt Urns I have produced to hold Ashes. They are bio-degradable, and therefore provide an eco-friendly option if Ashes are to be buried.

Forbidden fruit and autumn leaves..

 'Forbidden fruit'
acrylic on board, soon to be in Fannie and Fox..
(Such a naughty girl, tempting an 'innocent' guy..Look carefully in the water..)
Autumn leaves, I collected these a couple of weeks ago around Falmouth and pressed them in the telephone directory.  They are the beginnings of the autumn window and show at Fannie and Fox. Date of private view to follow..
It took ages to paint them with gel medium and it takes ages to dry, allegedly.

So, I walked up to the car boot whilst the first side was drying. I didn't get much, two old 'wire in trays', a scarf for Pam Tongue, 4 curly shelf brackets for my man's garage and a game of lexicon.. (Well, 2 part games really).. All for less than £3.00. I love a car boot and the treasures I find. Then back home to finish the leaves.. A good day.

Well here we go... On a Co-operative journey... 1st post...

Here goes...  I have been chosen/invited to join the Co-op.. Ha!!  Yes, it is the Co-op. But not as you know it.. An artists Co-op set up by an amazing lady called Pam Tongue, more about the amazing Pam soon.

I would like to invite you to join me, on a journey with Fannie and Fox, a Gallery run as a Co-Operative in Penryn, Cornwall.  My idea is to write a blog about my adventures with the other artists at Fannie & Fox and this is my very first post.  I expect the layout will change as I rack my brain on how to play around and make it better, It's been years since I set up my last one so please bare with me..

My plan is to show you around the gallery, I will introduce you to the other artists and show you their work.. I'm also hoping that they will invite me to their studio's to take a little peek and take a few photo's for the blog. (How I love an artists studio)..

The blog will be a warts and all blog. So, good times will be recorded along with the not so good times too.. The ups and downs of working with a lot of creative women should be an interesting read. I hope!

Also in the mix I will show you my new work that is going in the gallery and perhaps a peek or two at other galleries in Penryn, Falmouth and the local area.. Meeting other artists as we go..
Here are a few of the pieces I have put into the gallery.
